Equus Leather FAQ's
1. How do I work out what size belt to order?
The quick way is to add 2" to your trouser size and order that. So if you wear a 34" trouser, you order a 36" belt. A more accurate way is to measure an existing belt. We have a comprehensive sizing guide on the website, so do take a look at it. The most important thing to remember is the size you order from us is NOT the total length, it's the size to the middle hole.
2. What width should I order?
This depends on what occasion you are wearing the belt for. 1 1/4" is the most common width for general wear and formal suit wearing. 1 3/8" and 1 1/2" tend to wear well for casual jeans and chinos. However, it is personal preference and does depend on the width of the loops on your trousers.
3. I ordered a Nickel West End buckle, why is it yellow?
Solid Nickel is actually slightly yellow. Nickel you see in other places that looks white/silver is often Nickel plate. The Nickel West End also comes with a stainless steel tongue, so the buckle is slightly two-tone. This is detailed on the West End page.
4. Why can't I order all buckles in all sizes and metals?
We can only sell what is made for us, so some buckles, such as The Kensington, are only available in limited widths and sometimes only in solid Brass. This is why we offer the Palladium Plating option, for those that prefer the silver/white finish.
Ordering Dog Collars & Leads
1. How do I work out what size collar to order?
The most accurate way is to measure your dogs neck. We have a comprehensive sizing guide on the website, so do take a look at it. The important thing to remmeber is the size you order from us is NOT the total length of the collar.
2. Why can't I order a Rolled Collar in a smaller width than 3/4"?
Because we roll and stitch the leather by hand, anything smaller than 3/4" doesn't give us enough leather to roll and stitch.
3. I want a Plain Collar with Stainless Steel fittings in 5/8 width, why can't I find it on the website?
We can't get solid stainless steel fittings in the 5/8" width, this is why we don't offer it. It's the same reason we can't offer 1 1/4" wide collars in stainless steel, but can in brass.
4. Why do you offer a ring in the handle of the leads?
Some people like a ring in the handle so they can clip the trigger to it and wear it around their waist when walking the dog off lead. Some like to be able to pass the lead through the ring in order to tether their dog. It's all personal preference.
