Caring for Brass and Nickel Buckles and Other Fittings

Your buckles will have been treated with an anti-tarnish preperation as part of the manufacturing process, so initially there will be no need to clean or polish any of your brass or nickel fittings. However, ovcer time both of these metals may tarnish and look dull, particularily if used in harsh conditions. Dont panic! Part of the reason for the enduring popularity of these metals is that they can be cleaned and polished back to their original finish. Stainless Steel may also be treated with either of the cleaners below, however in our experience will not need to be.

We recommend that you use the products Silvo for Nickle fittings and Brasso for your brass fittings, both manufactured by Rekitt. These products are available in a liquid or wadding format. The liquid for is the more economic, but the wadding is easier to use and would be our recomendation.

To clean your fittings you should follow the manufacturers instructions. Please note that you should ensure that the leather is not touched by either the wadding or the liquid cleaner as it will damage the leather finish and cause permanent marks.
