Collar Size Guide

N.B. The instructions here are NOT for half check collars. Please see our guide here if you require information on half check fitting

Method 1

Measure around your dogs neck using a tape measure. You should have the tape measure as tight or as loose as you wish your collar to be. We recommend you should aim to be able to get two fingers comfortably under the collar/tape measure, but that you should not be able to easily pull the tape or collar over the dogs ears from the fitted position. This method of measuring is not as accurate as Method 2 as a tape measure is much lighter and thinner than a collar, so we would recommend you add 1" - 1 1/2" to the measurement you take.

Method 2

Measure an existing collar that fits as you like it. This is the best method to get a good measurement. Please measure from the very end of the leather at the buckle to the hole that fits your dog the best (not to the end of the collar). This length is the one you should select for your new Equus collar.

Please remember that too long is better then too short, so generally always round up rather than down.

What we do with your measurement

Most of our collars come with 5 holes 3/4" apart. The only exeption is the smaller sizes of whippet collar which have 5 holes 5/8" apart. We will make your collar up so that the size you have selected is in the middle of these holes, giving you a range of adjustment both longer and shorter. Your collar will be made specifically for you so we are able to vary this should you require it, as bespoke makers we want to make you and your dog the perfect collar.
