We have designed our Padded Half Check collar as the ultimate in comfort, strength, appearance and exclusivity for you and your dog - every collar is entirely bespoke and made specifically for its canine recipient using the same craftsmen, materials and techniques as our bespoke belts. While we were developing this product we particularily took into account the needs of the owner of the stronger dog who may pull whilst walking on their lead. We use the very best panel hide to produce a smooth, soft, padded lining that overlaps the sides of the collar to help protect your dogs neck and windpipe and spreads the pressure produced by pulling or lunging at the lead over as wide an area as possible, with the objective of minimising the associated pain and tissue bruising that can result from this behaviour in a standard collar.
As with all our products this collar, including the lining, is entirely hand stitched for strength and will stand many years of use. We make our collars to a standard of craftsmanship unavailable in commonly available dog products and as such we are able to make this collar not only comfortable, tactile and visually appealing but also strong enough to cope with the training demands of large or strong dogs.
We are able to make these collars with either solid brass or solid stainless steel fittings. Brass makes for a smart, distinctive collar and is the traditional metal of choice of the saddlery trade and will never rust. We have added a stainless steel option to address the needs of owners of show dogs or dogs with white hair who have found that brass chains leave a grey mark on the coat. Unlike many widely available brands our chain and fittings are solid stainless steel, so will never rust, discolour and are far less likely to mark the coat.
The collar is made to measure to the exact size you require so there are no bulky buckles or keepers around your dogs neck. Please see our guide to measuring your dog for your new half check collar here - the size you order is the length of the leather section only, NOT the total length including the chain. Please note all measurements are quoted in inches. The width of the collar you select below will be the width of the central Bridle Leather strap, the padding will be in addition to this. For example a collar ordered in 3/4" width will have a total width including padding of around 1 1/8" and a 1 1/4"ordered width will have a total width of around 1 7/8".
How to Measure For Your New Half Check!
The most accurate way of determining the size of your new Equus Half Check is to measure your dogs neck. We appreciate this is probably easier said than done in some cases! We've put together a handy video to show you the best way to measure. Watch it a few times, then arm yourself with a tape measure, a pencil and some paper and a few doggy treats!
Ask your dog to sit, remove the current collar and take a tape measure around the lowest part of the neck where a collar would naturally sit. Have it quite tightly, no fingers underneath and record this size.
What To Do With Your Neck / Collar Measurements
Neck Measurement:Take 3" off your neck measurement - this is the size you order and will be the length of the leather part of your collar.
For example, a neck measurement of 13" would mean you order a 10" Half Check or a 10-13" Adjustable / Opening Half Check. This sounds small, but the chain section of the collar is in addition to this. We've made this type of collar for many years, and in our experinece this will produce a collar thats just right
